11/13/2022 0 Comments I6 ravenloft![]() You'll see high quality artwork from several sources, including SSI's Strahd's Possession, the black & white interior art of the original module, and full color scans of cover art from this and other Ravenloft products. Ray has made excellent use of art, music and other hacks. I must say that the Village of Barovia seemed somewhat devoid of citizens and especially merchants, though everything important to the plot was certainly present. I was also quite impressed with the Svalich woods, which felt eerily inhabited and deadly. But it doesn't stop with the layout the rooms are also well-detailed and terror lurks around every corner. ![]() In my book, Ray deserves extra praise just for recreating Castle Ravenloft in the UA engine. He is the gentleman fiend, cursed for eternity for his transgressions.and his tale is told in Ray Dyer's conversion of the classic module I6: Ravenloft. What kind of monster would you be if you were condemned to an existence knowing everything you ever wanted was nearly in your grasp, and yet you could never attain it? This is the tale of Count Strahd von Zarovich, lord of Barovia, father of Ravenloft. I don't know if that counts as 'cheating'. I edited the temple in the endgame, to allow my characters to be restored back to their proper levels. The only combat related problems were the level draining monsters, and then not offering any chances for 'restoration' in the temple. I didn't need to add any resting areas into the game. This had the right amount, and the combats seemed to be nicely balanced. Since combat is one of the main components in these games, there should be some (as opposed to some of my stuff, where the combat is just a small piece of the action), but not too much. I think the game had just the right amount of combat. Nothing is more confusing when you are trying to find your way than being constantly forced to fight never-ending monsters. Here were no wandering monsters, and that was a good thing. The castle made more sense in this game than in some other Ravenloft conversions, which were simply overwhelming in their hugeness. if memory serves, I'm not the only one who has mentioned this) and feeling somewhat lost. This is another 'mapper's paradise' the game isn't all that lengthy, but if you don't map the castle Ravenloft, you'll spend a lot of time wandering around in circles, revisiting rooms (and tapping away at several repeating descriptions. Otherwise the presentation was very good, the new frame, the colors, music and art were quite good and appropriate for this particular game and setting. It's very stylish, but I found it very difficult to read. ![]() First thing I had to do was change the font. ![]()
